3 | The first day at the gynaecologist

After picking Heilig Hart, it was time to schedule the first specialist visit. Appointments are not too hard to get, was my first impression. I gave them a call. We needed an hour that suited both Koen and me. The immediate next week, I would be in Brussels all 5 days for special sessions, so this couldn't be an option. The one after then. One availability was on the Monday at 17h. Just perfect for both. So we took it.

September 18, 2023: We arrived and registered in HHL. Its my first time at this hospital although the location of the hospital is prime...right in the hub of town. We waited for our turn.

We get called in. Didn't immediately felt warm at the doctor's. But I usually limit my expectations when visiting one. The talk begins. Estimates of the delivery (using a cyclical map) were already made. She looked at the bloodworm and asked about family history. Koen's family has 2 cases of cleft palate. Upon mentioning, I was told to raise my dose of Folium (supports neural system formation).

I'm well into my 9th week. They could check the womb to see. So came the first impression of a grainy black-and-white little speck on the computer - the little growing life! Heartbeats were audible. Very little to see, but there was definitely something to see! They printed out the images and handed them to us.

By now I haven't been able to eat adventurously at all. Quantities of food were becoming smaller too. Some worry lingered. If this is normal or should I take some measures. Doctor mentioned some supplements but I'm not interested anymore. She mentioned ginger could help. She said until 14 weeks nausea would prevail and then it usually dissipates in most cases. Sitting and watching from week 9, seemed like a long wait until week 14!

We started to leave. It had begun to rain and was drizzling a little. On our way out, we made our next appointment. Took the info brochures. We were full of questions and thoughts. We were told to hurry with the daycare, finding a midwife, arranging things at work...

For now, I'll arrive home and sit.
